Getting that tweak xp ramdrive to work
I have never successfully gotten the ramdrive to auto install using the program, I’ve always had to do it manually, so do it that way.. here’s how, taken right from the help menu. Please note: before you do this you may want to go to “my computer” .. click on “tools” .. “folder options” .. click the “view” tab, and make click on the tab to show “hidden files” before proceeding to make things go smoother.
脗路 Go to the control… to the add new hardware wizard
脗路 Click on ‘Next’ on the ‘Welcome’ screen of the Hardware Wizard.
脗路 The Hardware Wizard will scan your machine for new hardware. Let it finish.
脗路 Then, when it finds no new hardware, say YES, you have the hardware in.
脗路 Then go to the bottom of the next screen’s list and choose the ‘Add a new hardware device’ option.
脗路 Use the ‘Install the hardware that I manually select from a List (Advanced)’ choice.
脗路 On the next screen, use the first choice ‘Show all devices’.
脗路 It might take a while before the next screen appears – please be patient and wait.
脗路 From the next screen, choose ‘Totalidea’ in the list and select the ‘RAM Disk Driver’. There is also the ‘Have Disk’ button – if you click that button, you can manually select ramdisk.inf from C:\Windows脗庐\INF\
脗路 Click ‘Next’ and the Hardware Wizard will install the RAM Disk driver.
脗路 If it asks you for a file, enter C:\Windows脗庐\INF\ into the location field.
Once you have finished this, you need to force the “fastfat” driver to load on startup, otherwise you’ll have a ramdrive that is non functioning in “RAW” format.
You force fastfat to load by changing th efollowing registry entry…
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fastfat
Change the “Start” value from 4 to 1
After doing this you should use tweak xp to determine size of ramdisk and drive letter. You will then be forced to reboot. After reboot is finished everything should work fine.
