Installing Quicken on Vista

Installing Quicken on Vista can be quite frustrating for people. A client of mine installed the software and was unable to get Quicken to open up and could not uninstall it. The trick is that you need to run the install as Administrator or you will run into problems. First lets go through the steps to install Quicken:

1. Insert your Quicken install disc. Click Cancel when the installation prompt appears.
2. Go to (click the Start button and go to ).
3. Right-click the Quicken CD and select Open.
4. Right-click install.exe.
5. Select Run as Administrator.
6. If the UAC prompt appears, click Allow.

The Quicken install screen will appear, follow its instructions to install the software. The installation can take a long time to complete. It took my client’s installation over an hour, so be patient.

If you have already installed Quicken and did not use the above mentioned method, you probably are pretty frustrated because it doesn’t work. You will also find that it doesn’t uninstall. Since we need to uninstall the software before we can load it on the , these steps must be followed:

1. Download the Installer Clean Up Utility from .
2. After downloading the utility, install it by double-clicking msicuu2.exe.
3. Click the Start button, followed by All Programs and select Install Clean Up.
4. When the utility appears, find Quicken in the list and select it.
5. Click the Remove button.
6. Once the utility has completed, reboot your .
