Keyboard shortcut to open Task Manager directly

Posted on February 26th, 2007 by Jason

Back in Windows XP if you were not on a domain CTRL + ALT +DEL would open up Task Manager. In Windows Vista that key combination opens the secure desktop that allows you to do many more thing. To directly to Task Manager, hit CTRL + ALT + ESC.

CTRL+ALT+ESC does not work. This tip is faaaaake! *angry* Just give me a way to disable the bloody secure desktop, there’s NOTHING there that I can’t access from elsewhere, and give me back my instant task manager!!!

CTRL+SHIFT+Esc works. Anon is either a jerk or has a busted keyboard.

    Hi Folks!

Just wanted to share my new experience.

If your system fails to start due to an error related to lost HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other critical system boot files you can repair this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then launch “attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. Launch “Bootcfg /Rebuild” and then Fixboot

    Cheers,
    Carl

Actually, was too tired to figure out how to make the task manager open on its own when I start Vista, so wanted to put it in the startup folder. Thanks Raven.yu for the task manager’s “name.” With quad core, and a shitload of memory (among other things), I like to see how my system’s running.
