This is far to much to go through. If you're going to log off and log back on there is no need to kill the explorer task. If you do want the quicker fix then just kill explorer in task manager then go to the top of task manager and hit file>Run then type explorer.exe and you're done. Ideally you should go into folder options and select open folder windows in a separate process. That way if one process hangs others will work.

That is what you call a quick fix. Unfortunately you will come across this all too frequently. Why not have your IT Department take care of this and you will never have to run the trouble of restarting or starting a new task. Or even better yet upgrade to Linux Kernel.

I have suffered from this problem as well, and recently discovered a new way to get back to work quickly, instead of rebooting or logging off! All you have to do is go to the File menu of Windows Task Manager and select New Task (Run...). In the Create New Task dialog box, enter explorer into the Open: text box, and hit OK. Your task bar and everything should reappear, and put you back in business!
