A weekly scheduled defrag needs the system to up and free of applications load for the duration of the defrag. This can take a while depending on the number and size of the disks. An easier solution is to install a real-time automatic defragmenter like Diskeeper 2008. I use DK Pro on my windows XP pro(SP3) home computer that has 6 drives in it, and Diskeeper automatically defrags all of them silently in the background (when I am using the system) without slowin down other apps. Very efficient and thorough too.

I recently purchased the full version of Diskeeper 08 and have set it to run automatically. I was sceptical about the defrag doing its job and using the PC at the same time, but it works like a charm. Its also supposed to defrag even under very low free space conditions. Its far easier than manually running defrags which sometimes last for ages and dont complete.
