Switch Off Use the Web Annoyance

Whenever stumbles across a file it doesn’t recognise you are will see a message box that says cannot open this file’ and gives you the option to ‘Use the Service’, to find the necessary program. I don’t know about you but I can’t recall a single instance where it has worked and it’s usually much quicker just to the file name or extension. Well, thanks to the clever folk at ‘howtogeek’ here’s a way to zap that dialogue box and go straight to the Programs list, that you would get if you chose the second option. It works in both XP and Vista and involves editing the , so pay attention, and bear in mind the usual warnings and disclaimers about backing up the first, and not messing with it if you don’t know what you are doing.

Windows Vista Upgrade Install Fix

With the release of Vista comes a surprising change to the way the upgrade version works.

Unlike previous version of , you can no longer wipe out your existing installation and install a fresh install of Vista with the upgrade DVD. Instead, your upgrade version on top of the previous version of you have.

This change will help cut down on the number of people buying the wrong version of Vista but creates a huge for any power user that wants to start fresh with a new operating system. (more…)

Many people leave their PCs on all of the time. That often means of open , and information that ’t been saved as recently as possible.
