OEMs Bungle XP Dual Cores Systems

ARE RELEASING dual-core machines onto the market without correctly configuring them. According to Review, XP machines being shipped from the big retail stores with on board are not configured correctly.

The site names Sager as one OEM which does not configure this for their Dual Core . Machines at BestBuy, Fry’s, CircuitCity have also been found unmodified. XP2 does not automatically sniff out whether or not a dual-core processor is being used and the configuration has to be done manually. Failure to do so results in some games such as Oblivion being tiggered.

Vista Sigh

I just installed Vista Business on my laptop. I’d never advocate being an early adopter at the enterprise level, but I’m enough of a geek that I really wanted to get my hands on the latest and greatest. Having played with preview releases, I was certainly impressed by the polish, , and apparent security.

Besides, since my experience with 64-bit had been less than stellar and my wireless drivers had just crapped out on my latest Linux install (Fedora Core), I figured now was the time to move. Windows Defender Says Alexa is a Trojan

, the latest version of Defender thinks that Alexa is a trojan, talk about false positives, unless, that is, Alexa has REALLY changed what they do. My is that it is detecting it as another piece of , as it shows in the screen shots, /VB.BZ. I’m sure an apology is sure to come from Microsoft, and that they do not have something against Alexa.

This morning I discovered several PCs running Defender and the Alexa Toolbar were receiving messages that the Alexa Toolbar was classified as a trojan. The name classification within Defender was /VB.BZ. Read More»
