Windows 7 is an evolutionary Windows client release, according to Microsoft, and it was also fit that support for the OS would also be an evolution compared to what was available for Windows Vista. And Windows 7 comes in a world where Microsoft Support is much different from what it was when the company made its debut.
According to the software giant, “Microsoft Corp. was founded in 1975 to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. Customer support in 1975 consisted of Bill Gates and Paul Allen.” The focus on customer support has grown tremendously for Microsoft, as the Windows operating system became ubiquitous, and as the company started offering additional products.
Official statistics from the Redmond company reveal that this year alone traffic to Microsoft online support exploded to approximately 1.2 billion. “Microsoft Customer Service and Support now manages 30 million support requests online, through e-mail and phone each year in 29 languages across a range of products around the world. There are more than 7,000 agents in over 60 locations available to help Microsoft customers,” the company explained. Read More»

Microsoft has updated the tools and development solution for the latest release of Forefront Threat Management Gateway. June 2009 brought with it the third beta of TMG. Now Microsoft is offering the associated diagnostics and feature-related solutions as well as the software development kit tailored specifically to Forefront TMG Beta 3. The Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) Beta 3 Tools & Software Development Kit is currently available for download via the Microsoft Download Center. The latest development milestone brings to the table both administration and developer tools, and developers will be able to take advantage of new capabilities.
The Network Inspection System is new to this release. “We’ve added new structures, enumerations and log fields. For example, the FPCIPSSignature object represents a single intrusion prevention system signature. With it you can get the signature information, whether it is enabled or not. Malware inspection APIs – TMG’s malware inspection APIs allow you to manage the behavior of the feature. For example, using the FPCMalwareInspectionProperties object you can define the malware inspection settings for a policy rule,” revealed Noam Ilovich and Vivian Levin from the Forefront TMG Program Management team. Jason While Outlook 2007 offers many new features that do indeed offer real benefits it can come at a price – performance.
On my Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM Outlook 2007 originally took a good 20 seconds to fire up from a fully booted PC and appeared to be constantly sluggish. So what can be done about it?
Tip 1: Delete attachments
A little-known feature in Outlook is the ability to keep an email but delete one or several attachment. Firstly, sort your inbox by file size (descending) and open a message (by double clicking so it opens in a new window) where you no longer wish to keep the attachment. Right click over the attachment and select Remove. Now save the email, repeat with all relevant emails in this mailbox and then repeat in any other mailboxes (including your sent items). Read More»

With the advent of Windows Vista at the end of 2006/the beginning of 2007, Microsoft has started pouring a consistent amount of efforts into enabling optimized desktops. Throughout 2007, and after the introduction of Windows Vista Service Pack 1, the Redmond company continued to fine tune a set of offerings bundled together under the umbrella of Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) for Software Assurance customers. The Microsoft Management Summit (MMS) in Las Vegas was the stage where the software giant stressed its constant commitment to both optimized Vista desktops and virtualization.
“The combination of MDOP and Windows Vista gives customers the tools they need to support more flexible work environments for their users, while making it easier and more efficient to manage and maintain their networks. This is the concept we refer to as the optimized desktop, and many of our customers have the tools to realize the benefits today.
