Apple’s iPhone is likely to be one of the biggest gadget releases in 2007. It’s also unlikely to be sold with Apple’s iTunes Pro software so if you plan on converting your favourite movies or shows to your iPhone, you’re going to have to work it out yourself.
The reality is, however, you can start creating your iPhone video library right now because the tools already exist.
Although Apple has been reasonably scant on giving out the iPhone’s technical details, there’s enough information just from Apple’s iPhone website to help you create exactly what you need.
If you look at the technical specs of the iPhone, the Apple website says the screen is 480×320-pixels. Now if you read the fine print at the bottom of the screen it says “Up to 5 hours of battery life is based on H.264 1.5-Mbps video at 640-by-480 resolution combined with 128-Kbps audio”. Read More»

So, little Suzie had her big recital, and you brought the new camcorder and tripod, enduring “Who does this guy think he is, Spielberg?” stares from other parents (and likely your spouse). Now it’s time for your big reward: You get to show the world the gorgeous new video of your future American Idol winner. You finish up the basic video editing, adjusting color, cutting dead air, making transitions if you’re into that sort of thing. But the world isn’t waiting for you to send it DVD copies, leaving you to wonder, “How the heck do I get this to all her adoring fans?”
To get your video into shape for iPod and YouTube distribution, start in your video-editing program. I used Adobe Premiere Elements in the directions below; it’s our reigning Editors’ Choice among consumer video-editing apps. Read More»

Microsoft have just released a fix for the only remaining problem I have with Windows Vista, which is the problems using an iPod, which can corrupt your iPod if you disconnect it incorrectly.
This problem may occur if you use one of the following methods to disconnect the iPod:
- You use the Safely Remove Hardware feature in the notification area to disconnect the iPod. Then, you disconnect the USB cable.
- You use the Eject command in Windows Explorer to disconnect the iPod. Then, you disconnect the USB cable. Read More»

You’ve found an irresistible video on YouTube that you just have to show to your friends, so you want to download it to your Apple iPod. You search in vain for the Download to iPod button that should be there on the YouTube page but isn’t. YouTube doesn’t make it easy; you’re going to have to do it yourself.
Before getting started, let’s understand the problem, which has two basic aspects. First, YouTube doesn’t want you to download its videos—and it says so in its help files. Downloading the files isn’t illegal, but since YouTube’s business model is based on page views, the company has been known to modify its tagging and to use other methods to prevent downloads. If one of the techniques discussed here suddenly stops working, you’ll know why. Either look for an update or search out another solution. Read More»

iPod users will be relieved to know that Microsoft has fixed a glitch in Windows Vista that had the potential to mess up their players data. It concerns the Vista Safely Remove Hardware function, used to eject the player from the system and although the patch, which was released a few days ago, though the advice from Apple is to continue using the iTunes eject function. CNET News also reports a number of other updates to do with hooking devices up to Vista PCs, including one that could result in a loss of images when transferring image files from a Canon EOS-1D

Apple’s iPhone will likely see positive acceptance when the device ships in June, according to research firm Goldman Sachs. Goldman points to a recent handset branding survey that was conducted in China, India, the U.K. and the U.S. as evidence that Apple’s new gadget might yield positive results for the Cupertino-based company. Despite the fact that the survey took place before iPhone was debuted at Macworld in January, the number of potential iPhone buyers is equivalent to 75 percent of the installed base of current iPod owners, according to SeekingAlpha. Just under one-half of the potential buyers come from respondents who have never owned an iPod, and 71 percent of respondents in the U.S. indicated interest in a potential Apple cellular handset.
