With the advent of Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft has expanded the list of ports blocked by the browser, in comparison to previous versions of IE, namely IE6 and IE7. While past releases of Internet Explorer blocked eight ports, with IE8 Microsoft has extended the list to no less than 10. This behavior is by default and is designed as an extra mitigation set up to protect end users. With its 10 blocked ports, Internet Explorer 8 trails behind rival browsers, which are blocking a more extensive list of ports.
“Internet Explorer (actually, WinINET, the network stack beneath IE) prohibits use of certain ports for HTTP(S) connections. The intent of this blocking is to prevent Cross Service/Protocol Request Forgery attacks. For instance, an attacker could use HTML Forms to send a request to an unprotected mail server such that the mail server interprets the request as a poorly-formatted, but valid request, to send an email message. Jason A few months ago, my PC took over 10 minutes to start up. Now it just takes about a minute. Want to know how I did it? Here’s how:
1. Upgrade Your RAM
Yeah, the most obvious tip but people hardly upgrade it. RAM these days is very cheap, especially if you buy it through Amazon or eBay. When I checked Amazon, the price of 1 GB RAM was around $20-$30.
2. Get Rid of Unneeded Software
Most PCs come shipped with unneeded software. Uninstall all of them. I’m sure there are better alternatives to those software. For example, my PC came shipped from hp with lots of bloatware such as HP Image Zone, Norton AntiVirus 2004, Record Now! CD & DVD Burning software etc. I uninstalled all of them and replaced them with better software like Picasa and Nero.
3. Keep Only One Browser
This is part of the getting rid of unneeded applications but I decided to separate it because so many people have 3, or even 4 browsers installed on their computer. Jason Some quick tips to get your iPhone skills slicker than the guy or girl next door. To rearrange the icons on the home page, tap and hold any icon until all the icons start to giggle. Now you can drag icons about, including on and off the Dock or between pages. Click the Home button to lock the icons again. The Dock is limited to four icons but, if you set the Home button’s double-click to call up your Contact favourites, you can remove the Phone icon from the Dock.
If you manage to crash your iPhone 3G playing with third-party apps, hold both the power and home buttons for 10 seconds to reboot the phone. Recalcitrant apps can be uninstalled using Installer.
Apple originally charged for custom ringtones but now you can create your own in GarageBand, while Windows users can follow the video tutorial at . SendSong supposedly lets you add any track in your iPod playlist to the custom ringtone list under Settings/Sounds/Ringtone, but we couldn’t get any love from it. Read More»

Firefox may be my browser of choice but there are times when it is REALLY slow, so slow in fact that I am sorely tempted to defect to Opera or even gasp Safari!
It’s sometimes even worse when you’re opening up Firefox. You click on that little Fox icon and it sits there thinking “hmmm….he wants me to start up…will I or won’t I? Let’s think about it for a few minutes”. Meanwhile you’re sitting there gnashing your teeth and flirting with the idea of walking on the wild side with Flock.
But you don’t have to wail and despair any more! During a little stroll through SourceForge, I found an interesting program called Firefox Preloader which was short on technical details but long on prospects. It claims to be able to “improve Firefox’s start-up time”. Read More»

The face-off between the most prominent browsers on the market is not only a question of audience and uptake, but also one of security. As browsers are often a preferred attack vector, developers aim to bulletproof the product as much as possible. As far as the browser market is concerned, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera pretty much dive the users, with IE having the dominant position, as a result of the Windows-near monopoly, but with Mozilla’s open source product coming hard from behind. Jason Google is a search technology used by all of you and I bet you admit it. But if you’re a real Google fan you conducted thousands of searches on Google and your browser, no matter it is Internet Explorer, Firefox or any other application, remembers them all. If you want to test this, just go over to Google, click inside the search box and press the “A” key to write a word. If you ever searched Google for a word beginning with the “A” letter, then a drop-down list should appear showing your past queries made on Google. Because this list can become huge and provide numerous words and phrases, some of you might want to delete it but you don’t know how to do that. Download and install went smooth, but for now it looks like this really is just a “bug fix” update with no noticeable added features…Anyone out there try it??
UPDATE: A list of big fixes can be found on Apple’s site here. It looks like Apple just patched security vulnerabilities in Safari for the most part…so sad.
