The Automated System () is one of the aspects in Vista that has been evolved with the introduction of Vista . A application programming interface, is designed to keep track of and record the of disks and volumes on a system. In the end, comes into play in cases of bare metal scenarios. Ahead of restoring the as well as the associated content including programs and data, will take the disks and volumes to their original state. The Automated System will manage disks in accordance with Critical and non-Critical labels, depending on whether they do or do not contain system state or components.

Countdown to Vista Service Pack 1

Prepare for some fun and games in March when releases the long awaited . It’s all going to be a bit of a palaver with the main (assuming that you have ) preceded by three ‘helper’ updates, two of which will determine which parts of your PC needs. The third one is only for users of Vista Ultimate and Enterprise editions. If you have a slow connection, or no connection, or a lot of machines to update then you’ll be able to get on DVD, or an image copy of the DVD image file.

Download Windows Performance Tools Kit for Vista SP1

, v.4.1.1 (QFE) is, as the product’s label states, a collection of analysis tools. The resources are an integral part of the SDK for Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5, and essentially offer an update to WPT Kit v.4.1.0. In fact, it is WPT Kit v.4.1.0 that was shipped as a part of the Server 2008 SDK. With version 4.1.1 has resolved a couple of issues, including the fact that Analyzer did not execute when double-clicking an ETL file, and failed to perform power state transition analysis.

is now shipping along with SDK for Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5. A mouthful both, to be sure, but if you use either regularly it won’t be long before they become just ‘xperf’ and ‘the SDK’. (more…)

Vista RC is available through Update. Experience the WU based Vista installation by following 4 simple steps.

Vista RC distributed through Update will be applicable to Vista machines that are running on any of the 36 languages supported by Vista RTM.

If you already installed the Service Pack to your machine by using the standalone package, you must uninstall before you scan Update for Vista .

Systems running on Vista RTM require as many as three updates before can be installed. These updates are permanent to your Vista systems. Update will detect your system and offer the prerequisite packages that are applicable to your system. For details, please see the instructions below. (more…)

Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit

A blocking tool (SPBlockerTools.EXE - 100k) is available for organizations that would like to temporarily prevent installation of through Update. This tool can be used with:

* Server 2003 (valid through March, 2008)
* XP (valid for 12 months following general availability)
* Vista (valid for 12 months following general availability)
