Here’s a brilliant time-waster. It’s called Pictaps, simply pop along to the website, wait for it to load and click the Paint button. You can now use the simple drawing tools to design a character, based on the outline template; add colours and features. When you are happy with it click the OK button, give it a name and your character is transported into a 3D landscape, and starts dancing, along with countless copies and clones of itself.
It’s mesmerising, and highly addictive and when you get a moment have a look at some of the characters created by other visitors to the site. You can share your efforts with others with a link address, or download it to your blog or website, you can see the results of my pathetic drawing skills, called ‘Nukeman’ here, and yes, the resemblance is uncanny…

KeepVault lets you make automatic backups without ever leaving the couch. That’s because it integrates with Windows Media Center, so you can operate it entirely by remote (or mouse, if you prefer).
When you sign up for KeepVault, you get 25GB of free online storage. Obviously that’s not enough to store more than a handful of recorded TV shows, but it can probably accommodate an average-size music and photo library. (Larger accounts are available for a fee, of course.) You can pick and choose what categories of media to back up: photos, music, videos, documents and so on. Read More»

Microsoft makes it easy to view and generate XPS documents. Select the best method for you from the following table.
What is XPS?
The XML Paper Specification (XPS) makes modern documents possible for all. Simply put, XPS describes electronic paper in a way that can be read by hardware, read by software, and read by humans. With XPS, documents print better, can be shared easier, be archived with confidence, and are more secure. Read More»

We’ve been hearing rumours of super secret project by Google to create a virtual world based on Google Earth. Presumably it will be along the lines of Second Life, the phenomenally successful online world where between 1 and 3 million (depending who you talk to) players or residents meet and interact with other – well, it keeps them off the streets. Anyway, Google’s interest in this area is not as far-fetched as it sounds, Google Earth has been steadily evolving and recent additions to version 4, like Sketchup 3D graphics, which can be used to create buildings, makes it all sound quite plausible. It would certainly be a very attractive proposition for the search giant and the potential for advertising and cross-linking with its other services must be enormous. Of course, it’s still only a rumour but in the past they’ve had a habit of coming true, we shall see…

BitTorrent is a protocol that enables fast downloading of large files using minimum Internet bandwidth. It costs nothing to use and includes no spyware or pop-up advertising.
BitTorrent maximizes transfer speed by gathering pieces of the file you want and downloading these pieces simultaneously from people who already have them. This process makes popular and very large files, such as videos and television programs, download much faster than is possible with other protocols. Read More»

Apple Computer is warning customers who use the Windows version of its iTunes software to hold off upgrading to Windows Vista until it can release a patch to fix a number of serious compatibility issues, one of which could result in a corrupt iPod player.
Apple, in a statement posted Thursday on its Web support forum, says upgrading from Windows 2000 or Windows XP to Vista may result in the inability to play songs purchased and downloaded to the desktop iTunes player from its online iTunes store.
Worse, however, is the problem that iPod users could encounter if they try to eject their digital music player from a desktop port using the “Safely Remove Hardware” feature found on the Vista system tray. That, Apple warns ominously, “may corrupt your iPod.”

If you’re like many average Joe’s, you probably installed your Windows XP and/or Office software, and then put away your CDs, along w/ the cover that had the activation codes.

Here I am listing all of the free online scans for your computer, spyware, virus, registry, process and some great utilities at the end. I’m also listing some of the free tools, like SpyBot, Ad-Aware, etc.
Free Online Spyware Scan This scan is free and will remove what it finds, although, it doesn’t try to find the more complicated stuff as it could not remove it without installing software on your computer.
Housecall Free Online Virus Scanner from Trend Micro.
CSShredder CoolWebSearch is notorious for keeping you from removing their crap from your computer, download this special tool just for removing all of the 100’s of different versions of CoolWebSearch.
CoolWebSearch installs dozens of bookmarks–mostly to porn Web sites–on your desktop, changes your home page without asking, and continually changes it back if you attempt to correct it. Furthermore, it significantly slows down the performance of your PC, and introduces modifications which cause Microsoft Windows to freeze, crash or randomly reboot. Read More»
