When you connect to a website your computer establishes connections with the web server(s). One connection might be a graphics server, another connection may be an ad server and so on. Once the connection has received what it asked for it is disconnected and used for something else.

By default IE7 is set to only be able to open 2 or 4 connections at a time. If you have broadband and you use tabs in IE7 or you visit sites that use lots of connections this tweak will increase the speed of IE7 a little. (more…)

You can improve the speed of your Net without any third party solution, all you have to do that

Start/Run and type “gpedit.msc without quotes. Then you can see a window called the Group Policy Editor in that.

Local Computer Policy/Administrative Templates/Network/QoS Packet Scheduler in that window after selecting QoS Packet Scheduler, you can see Limit reservable bandwidth at the right side of the Window. (more…)

This is an old hack and it’s well documented all over the place so I don’t feel so bad about cutting & pasting the content but nonetheless it was taken from Computerworld.

By default, IE allows only two simultaneous download sessions from a single Web server. This can affect the speed of your Web browsing, because you’re not able to simultaneously download all the objects that make up a Web page, so the page displays more slowly. If you could force IE to download more objects at once, Web pages would display more quickly.

A tweak to the Windows Registry does the trick. With this tweak, you can force IE to use more than two simultaneous sessions. A good number is 10. Here’s how to do it: (more…)

Those of you who have migrated to Vista will probably appreciate the excellent Search facility, which finds things on your with impressive speed and ease. There are various ways to search the contents of an XP PC, but they tend to be a bit unwieldy and slow. Here’s an alternative, it’s called Copernic 2 and it’ll search all of your hard drives in less than a second. It’s really easy to use, and even suggests alternative spellings by comparing what you have typed with its index of your hard drives. The more stuff that Windows has to start up during boot, the longer it will take to complete.

So, with that in mind, the first thing you need to do is start unloading programs which are set to start automatically when you boot Windows. There are two places, primarily, that you want to look at:

1. Look in the “Startup” folder in your Start Menu. Anything in that folder is set to start automatically. To remove a program from this folder, simply navigate to the “Startup” folder in your Start Menu, right-click on the item you want to remove, and choose “Delete” from the menu. This will not delete the program…only the shortcut to it. (more…)
