In the Firefox settings there is an option to show the “windows and tabs from last time” when starting up the browser. This is handy for anyone who wants to close their browser, but retain any windows and tabs that were previously open for the next session.

Previously I never understood how this feature could be used to restore windows without the help of an extension. When I close Firefox I always use the red “X” in the upper-right corner of the window. Doing that, as expected, would only make Firefox remember the last window that I had open. (more…)

Some people hate change and I’ve had more than one person write about how they don’t like the new layout of Internet Explorer 7. So here are some quick tips how you can make it work more like the crappy old IE 6…

1) From the IE7 main menu at the top left under the search box, click “Tools” and then “Internet Options”

2) On the “General” tab, click the “Settings” button under “Tabs”. Deselect “Enable Tabbed Browsing” and press “OK”

3) Close IE and start it up again. (more…)

Everyone has a daily online routine: checking e-mail in the morning, sports scores after lunch, The Onion on Wednesdays, The New York Times Magazine on Sunday. Morning Coffee, a handy Firefox extension, helps streamline these surfing rituals. With it you can organize which sites you want to check each day and then open them simultaneously in tabs. I just installed Windows Vista Business on my laptop. I’d never advocate being an early adopter at the enterprise level, but I’m enough of a geek that I really wanted to get my hands on the latest and greatest. Having played with preview releases, I was certainly impressed by the polish, appearance, and apparent security.

Besides, since my experience with 64-bit Windows had been less than stellar and my wireless drivers had just crapped out on my latest Linux install (Fedora Core), I figured now was the time to move. We also have several new machines coming in that will be running XP, but are eligible for upgrade, so I wanted to start evaluating in our environment now. (more…)

1.IE Appearance IE allows you to zoom in or out on web-pages – use Ctrl+(+) and Ctrl+(-), You can even generate a print preview that scales the page to your paper size.
2.Classic Menus To stick with tradition, the ALT key or the Tools menu provides easy access to those familiar classic menus of IE.
3.Web Search Use the search engine you prefer through one familiar search box, and change search providers on the fly from a handy drop-down menu.
4.Tabbed Browsing How often do you open a number of web pages with a similar theme? Well you can group these together under the same Internet Explorer window with tabbed browsing. A simple ctrl-click will open a link in your current window to a new tab.
5.Quick Tabs Once you have the tab group, Quick Tabs allows you to view all your tabbed pages as thumbnails, allowing you to quickly pick the page you want.
6.Favorites (Groups) Favorites are even easier, and you can even save those same tab groups you created for later use. Simply use the star to access saved pages or tab groups, or + to add the page or tab group to favorites.
