Well I have researched vista and the only way to get it to run perfect after you have tried all the other tweaks like shutting down indexing etc is to shut down just about everything that auto starts in the task shedular. leave Manual defrag and certificate updates to run, but disable everything else that you arn't using. Other than manual defrag I only have 1 task that runs.Do a Google to check each one first to see if you actually need the task before you dissable them, but you can always enable them again. 98% of them you won't need. There are about 4 that call home to M$oft every so often too.M$oft will tell you not to disable anything, but they are full of it!
Don't worry so much about about the processes in Services because most of those only run when they are needed anyway,,except for Auto Update and Defender, error reporting and a few others,,you can dissable those in services and anything else that fires up at startup that you don't need.
Do that and Vista Kicks butt without any ill effects at all.
