Microsoft is offering for download not only the Beta for the first upgrade to Visual Studio 2010, but also a testing Build of the developer resources designed to extend VS2010.
In tandem with the release of Visual Studio 2010 which went live last week, the software giant also provided the first Beta development milestone for the VS2010 software development kit.
Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) SDK Beta is live on the Microsoft Download Center, where devs can grab it free of charge and start testing it immediately.
“The Visual Studio 2010 SP1 SDK Beta includes project templates that help developers create tool windows, menu commands, isolated shell projects, and editor extensions. The editor extensions include text adornments, colorizers, and margins,” Microsoft revealed.
Testers will need to run Visual Studio 2010 SP1 SDK Beta in concert with a Visual Studio 2010 Professional edition, or a higher SKU of the development platform.
Obviously, they can also download and deploy Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Beta, and also test drive the service pack.
“The Visual Studio 2010 SP1 SDK Beta also includes build tasks that help developers build and debug extensions. Building and debugging are managed in a second instance of Visual Studio named the experimental instance.
“The experimental instance provides a test bed for extensions without changing the primary installation of Visual Studio. The SDK also puts shortcuts to online documentation, samples, and other developer resources on the Start menu,” the company added.
Microsoft is also offering early adopters the Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta Readme, informing them of the known issues associated with the release. Obviously, the software giant is also providing guidance on how to resolve the problems that have already been identified for Visual Studio 2010 SP1 SDK Beta.
