What can you learn from Apple?
Apple /Computer/ is the star company of today. It is one of the companies, which is still able to make money on computers. It is pretty rare now; just have a look at Dell Computers and the troubles the company has to produce any profits from assembling PCs.
Apple has a unique ability – innovations are its driver for profits. It is not development of completely new devices and revolutionary solutions. Apple has the ability to wait till the market finds a possible star product of the future and then… Then Apple has ability to take the device and to implement the truly basic functionalities, which are really needed, putting away all the extras and providing nice box. That is all.
It is the same as with your website. You probably offer to the visitors much functionality and you spend a lot of time to make them working. But when you look at the statistics and utilization, you can find out – almost no one uses them. Then – you invest your money and your profit to features, which are not welcome by the visitors. Worse for you, those features can make your visitors lost in the navigation and they will not return to your site anymore.
It is the same as Microsoft Vista and Apple’s Mac OS X. Mac OS X is very easy to learn, the learning curve is very quick, because the system is pretty easy. Did you know, your Mac includes Terminal application, where you can type all that difficult UNIX commands? No? I know, it is there, but I had no need to do that.
When you plan your new products and services, always learn from Apple. How would they do it? Would they include such a feature into their services and products? No? So, why do you try to implement it? Are you too technical in your explanations to the visitors and users? Why? Can you draw it easily? No? You have to make a quick redesign. People like easy things and intuitive approach to control them.
Your own business must be like Apple. You must find your own way to simplify things. It will make your customers and clients happier and also – it will allow you to cut your costs and increase your profits.

I concur. Apple is a model of efficiency. Whether it is using Mac OSX or using an Ipod, Apple has Mircosoft, Dell and the PC cronies beat.
It’s a shame people choose to be stupid.
