I forgot a step. I included it in this post though.

In response to Mus’ question about removing it with a slave disk, yes.

The trick is, the infected/corrupt drive has to be the slave drive. So you need a fully functioning master, with an operating system on it (these directions work for XP and Vista)

IE, put the bad hard drive into a good computer. Scan the drive and remove any viruses.
Then open Regedit.
Higlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then click File and “Import Hive…”
Go to the attached hard drive, and look in the Windows\System32\Config folder and then select the one called SOFTWARE.
Name it “IWILLREMEMBERTOUNLOADTHIS” or whatver.
Open IWILLREMEMBERTOUNLOADTHIS and go to Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and change the userinit key to C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe

Then go back, select IWILLREMEMBERTOUNLOADTHIS, click File, and unload it.

This virut virus that’s going around is corrupting the userinit.exe so if you have the same copy of Windows, move the C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe file to the windows\system32 folder on the compromised hard drive.

well but I wasnt fast enough to do all the steps as the computer infected shut down before identified as an element on the network.
the result,
the object with the following name not found.

How can I solve the problem if its a stand alone pc?

can I change the registry on a slave disk?
